Two goals in two second half minutes saw RAF Lossiemouth run out winners by the odd goal in three in a match of few opportunities at Westburn Park.
Dufftown manager Paul Lamberton made three changes to the side that was defeated by Newmachar United on Saturday. Out went Scott Riddoch, Gary Simpson and Mark McManus to be replaced by Davie Ness, Gordon Stepien and Kris Geddes.
The first half was a virtual non event as far as chances went with Dufftown finally fashioning a chance with just a minute of the half remaining. A good surging run by Gordon Stepien saw him find Alan Gray in space and the midfielder's 20 yard effort was touched round his post by the RAF Lossiemouth goalkeeper.
Into the second half and Dufftown had a double chance within 60 seconds of the restart to take the lead. The ball broke invitingly to Kris Geddes 8 yards from the RAF Lossiemouth goal but the striker's shot was straight at the 'keeper who parried it to safety before Alan Gray saw his shot strike a defender before going behind for a corner.
The opening goal was to come for Dufftown on the hour mark. Central defender Gary Lamberton did well to swing over an excellent cross which found striker Kris Geddes in acres of space and he did well to steer his unchallenged header into the RAF Lossiemouth net.
RAF Lossiemouth then scored two goals in two minutes to completely turn the match around. The first goal after 69 minutes was an excellent 20 yard effort which gave home 'keeper Davie Ness no chance as it sailed into his top right hand corner. The second goal was as a result of some poor defending from Dufftown which eventually allowed the RAF Lossiemouth player to drive in a low shot from the edge of the penalty area which 'keeper Ness somehow allowed to squirm under his body and into the net.
From then on Dufftown huffed and puffed without ever really looking like they had the necessary guile to break down the stuffy RAF Lossiemouth defence, referee Richard Riddoch blowing the final whistle on a match of few chances and little quality. |
