Alan Shearer grabbed a last minute consolation goal as Dufftown were beaten in their first pre-season friendly.
Dufftown manager Paul Lamberton handed a starting place to goalkeeper Scott Riddoch and former players Alan Gray and Gary Simpson in a side that showed five changes from the side that drew with Deveronside in the last match of last season. Out from side went Martin Taylor, Kevin Smith, Lee McGregor, Stuart Allan and Tam Hearns with Riddoch, Gray and Simpson being joined by Andrew Ross and Mark McManus in the starting eleven.
Dufftown captain Stuart Lamberton created the first chance of the match for his side after 17 minutes. The striker did well to find some space inside the Newmachar penalty area before seeing his low shot strike the outside of the Newmachar post before going behind for a goal kick.
Gary Simpson created the next chance for Dufftown after 23 minutes. The midfielder showed good energy to burst into the Newmachar penalty area before crossing for Alan Shearer who saw his 8 yard header drift just wide of the Newmachar goalkeeper's left hand post.
Newmachar opened the scoring after 35 minutes. A cross was played in from the Newmachar left and the Newmachar player had all the time in the world to guide his header beyond 'keeper Riddoch and into the Dufftown net.
Newmachar doubled their advantage with 8 minutes remaining. A long through ball caused confusion between Scott Riddoch and Paul Lamberton and with the Dufftown defence only able to partially clear the ball it broke to a Newmachar midfeidler who sweetly volleyed the ball beyond Riddoch from 20 yards.
Dufftown grabbed a consolation goal in the final minute of the match. Subsitute Kris Geddes did well on the Dufftown left before firing over a cross which was met by a glancing header from Alan Shearer which beat the Newmachar goalkeeper.
The final whistle was blown just a short time later on a match which had a typical pre-season feel about it - Dufftown manager Paul Lamberton will be hoping for improved performances once the season itself kicks off. |
