Dufftown were outclassed by Super League side Lewis United in their final Grill League Cup match at Westburn Park.
Dufftown manager Paul Lamberton made two changes to the side that was victorious against Inverness City last weekend. Out went Peter Fraser and Blair McDonald to be replaced by Mark McManus and Kris Geddes.
The opening goal was to come for Lewis United after just 7 minutes. United's Kristopher Allan chipped the ball over Dufftown 'keeper Scott Riddoch and this allowed Michael McKinnon an easy tap in to give the visitors the early advantage.
Dufftown grabbed the equaliser just two minutes later. A short free-kick from Stuart Lamberton found Kris Geddes in space and the Dufftown striker rifled the ball beyond visiting 'keeper Calum Steer and into the bottom corner of the net to draw the home side level.
Dufftown almost took the lead after 22 minutes. Good play involving Scott Cameron and Kris Geddes saw Geddes find Andrew Ross inside the Lewis United 6 yard box but 'keeper Steer did well to save at the feet of Ross and the chance was gone.
Lewis United should have scored after 30 minutes. A free kick from Matthew Gairns was spilled by home 'keeper Scott Riddoch straight to the feet of Jendrich Biskup but the striker blazed the ball wildly over the bar to the relief of 'keeper Riddoch.
Lewis United took the lead for the second time after 37 minutes. This time slack play by Dufftown was punished, Kristopher Allan gained possession before passing to Michael McKinnon who grabbed his second goal of the afternoon with a sidefooted effort into 'keeper Riddoch's left corner.
Into the second half and Lewis United almost grabbed their third goal of the afternoon after 51 minutes. A mistake by 'keeper Scott Riddoch allowed Lewis United's Michael McKinnon the chance to chip the ball into the net, Dufftown's Gary Lamberton did well to clear the ball before it crossed the Dufftown goal-line.
The third Lewis United goal was to be delayed by just a couple of minutes. Jendrich Biskup did well to beat Dufftown's William Siford and Gary Lamberton before clinically depatching the ball beyond Dufftown 'keeper Riddoch and into the net.
Lewis United made it 4-1 after 56 minutes. An error by Dufftown's William Siford saw him blast the ball at Lewis United's Michael McKinnon and the striker gleefully accepted the chance, completing his hat-trick with an easy tap in.
Lewis United got their fifth goal of the afternoon after 72 minutes. A corner kick was swung into the Dufftown penalty area by Michael McKinnon and Paul Lamberton could do nothing but scuff the ball into his own net.
Lewis United grabbed their sixth goal of the afternoon with 12 minutes remaining. This time Matthew Gairns did well before crossing to substitute Gordon Mair who blasted the ball into the Dufftown net.
Dufftown grabbed a goal back with 6 minutes remaining. Gary Simpson 's through ball found Stuart Lamberton and the Dufftown captain stroked the ball beyond 'keeper Steer and into the United net.
The final goal of the afternoon was to come in the final minute of the match for Lewis United. Again Matthew Gairns was the creative force before crossing to Gordon Mair who made no mistake driving the ball beyond a helpless Riddoch.
The final whistle went a short time later and the Dufftown players will be hopeful that this was a one-off result and that their normal defensive solidity will return for future matches. |
