Second half goals from Stuart Allan and Peter Fraser secured a convincing 2-0 victory for Dufftown at Pinefield in the Morrison Cup.
Co-managers Willie Duncan and Rab Mulheron returned to the dugout and made two changes to the side that were defeated by Glentanar last weekend. Out went Gary Sutherland and Daryl McGregor to be replaced by Gary Lamberton and Adam Irvine.
New Elgin were to create the first chance of the match after 21 minutes. Full-back John Stewart swung in a cross towards the back post which Dufftown captain Stuart Lamberton seemed to head away from his goalkeeper Martin Taylor into the path of New Elgin's Barry Ellis but the midfielder could only find the side netting with his effort.
Just two minutes later and the first chance of the match for Dufftown. A free kick was rolled to Stuart Allan some 25 yards out but the striker saw his effort drift wide of New Elgin goalkeeper Gary McKnockiter's right hand post.
Dufftown midfielder Mark Taylor was to have the next effort for his side - after gathering possession in the middle of the park Taylor fired in a 20 yard effort which 'keeper McKnockiter comfortably held.
Dufftown were to be denied a penalty in controversial fashion after 29 minutes. Striker Adam Irvine seemed to be brought down by a New Elgin defender inside the New Elgin penalty area but despite the protestations of the Dufftown players, management and supporters referee Kevin Anderson decided that Irvine had dived and showed him a yellow card.
Just a minute later and New Elgin should have taken the lead. Striker Stuart Strathdee sprung the Dufftown offside trap before racing in on 'keeper Taylor but the Dufftown number 1 did well, pushing Strathdee's effort round the post for a corner.
Into the second half and Dufftown were to take the lead after 50 minutes. Persistent play by Gary Spence midway inside the New Elgin half saw the ball eventually fall to Stuart Allan some 16 yards out and he made no mistake, driving his effort into the corner of the net to the delight of the Dufftown support.
The second goal of the afternoon was to come for Dufftown after 71 minutes. Again persistent play by midfielder Peter Fraser saw the ball eventually break his way some 22 yards out and with his left foot he simply arrowed his shot high past 'keeper McKnockiter and into his top left hand corner - a tremendous strike.
Dufftown had been in complete control of the second half and almost made it 3-0 in the final minute. An excellent cross from substitute Mark McManus found Stuart Allan but Dufftown's top 'scorer's effort was pushed behind for a corner by home 'keeper McKnockiter.
The final whistle was blown a short time later and the Dufftown players can be pleased with their performance and can look forward to next weekend's game with renewed confidence.
