Four second half goals from Bishopmill United meant Dufftown extended their winless league run to 5 matches after an action-packed 90 minutes at Westburn Park.
With colleague Willie Duncan still absent on holiday co-manager Rab Mulheron made two changes to the side that defeated Maybole a week ago. Out went Paul Lamberton and Stuart Allan to be replaced by Mark Taylor and Adam Irvine.
Before the match started players, officials and supporters all paused for a minute's silence ahead of Remembrance Sunday.
Dufftown created the first chance of the match after 9 minutes. Striker Rab Coll did well to win a corner for Dufftown and when Daryl McGregor's corner broke back to the midfielder he sent over an inviting cross which visiting 'keeper Barrie Andrews did well to hold.
Bishopmill United then created their first opening after 16 minutes. Striker Ian Wilson did well to beat Dufftown defender Gary Sutherland and was closing in on the Dufftown 'keeper Martin Taylor before defender Sutherland did well with a fine recovering challenge.
Bishopmill then had the next major chance of the game after 25 minutes. This time a free kick was swung in from the right hand side by Stuart Porter to the head of Craig McGovern but the midfielder directed his effort wide of the target.
Dufftown then opened the scoring after 32 minutes. A terrific pass from defender Lee McGregor found danger-man Rab Coll completely unmarked inside the Bishopmill penalty area and the striker did the rest, cooly slotting the ball beyond 'keeper Andrews to give the home side the lead.
Five minutes later and Dufftown could have doubled their advantage. Gary Spence did well to find Daryl McGregor and his cross from the right broke into the path of midfielder Peter Fraser but Fraser skied his shot high and wide of the Bishopmill goal.
Dufftown did get their second goal right on the half-time whistle. A corner kick from Daryl McGregor broke to Gary Sutherland who in turn found Mark Sanderson who tee'd the ball up for Mark Taylor to curl a delightful 20 yard effort into 'keeper Andrews' top right hand corner to the delight of the home support.
Into the second half and Dufftown were to gain a three goal advantage after just a minute's play. An excellent through ball from Mark Taylor found Mark Sanderson who saw his effort parried into the path of Rab Coll who rolled the ball into the empty net for his third goal in just two games despite appeals for offside from the Bishopmill defence.
Just two minutes later and Bishopmill were to be offered a route back into the match. Dufftown goalkeeper Martin Taylor needlessly fouled Bishopmill striker Lee Shanks inside the penalty area and substitute Garry Woods made no mistake from the resultant penalty kick.
Bishopmill striker Lee Shanks was becoming more influential and his set up-play allowed midfielder Craig McGovern the chance of a shot on goal after 50 minutes but he shot wide of the target.
Bishopmill were then handed their second penalty of the afternoon after 60 minutes in controversial fashion. There seemed little danger when Dufftown captain Stuart Lamberton chested the ball down inside the Dufftown penalty area but referee Ian Cargill decided that the defender had used an arm to control the ball. With the Dufftown players, management and fans incensed by the decision Garry Woods did well to keep his composure and slot home the resultant spot kick.
Dufftown could have extended their lead after 64 minutes. A Gary Spence free-kick from 25 yards out found defender Gary Sutherland but his free header missed the target and the chance was gone.
Just 5 minutes later and Bishopmill were to grab the equaliser. A cross came in from the Bishopmill left and the ball eventually broke to Gary Woods and the substitute grabbed his hat-trick with an excellent finish.
Dufftown almost regained the lead after 73 minutes. Midfielder Peter Fraser was fouled around 20 yards out and Gary Spence's free kick eventually broke to Mark Sanderson but he fired his effort just over the Bishopmill crossbar.
Just 4 minutes later and incredibly Bishopmill were awarded their third penalty kick of the afternoon. This time Dufftown substitute Colin Fraser was adjudged to have brought down Bishopmill's Garry Woods inside the Dufftown penalty area and the substitute capped an incredible afternoon by converting his fourth goal in less than 30 minutes of play.
The full time whistle was blown and the fans at Westburn Park vented their fury at the performance of referee Cargill and his assistants while the Dufftown players were left to rue their inabilty to claim the three points.
