A goal deep into second half stoppage time condemned Dufftown to a second straight defeat in dreadful conditions at Logie Park.
Co-managers Willie Duncan and Rab Mulheron made two chages to the side that was defeated by Inverness City last time out. Out from the starting eleven that day went Kevin Smith and Stuart Allan, to be replaced by Lee McGregor and Gary Sutherland.
Dufftown created the first chance of the match after 11 minutes. Gary Spence and Ian Cameron linked up well, Spence's cross finding the head of Cameron who saw his flicked header partially cleared by the Thistle defence to Peter Fraser who saw his 12 yard effort saved by home 'keeper Simon Bremner.
Just a minute later and Forres Thistle should have taken the lead. Good play from Craig Short saw him chip the ball into the Dufftown box into the path of David McIvor who saw his first time shot go over the Dufftown crossbar.
The next chance was to fall to Forres on the half hour mark. Again Craig Short was the provider, this time from a corner kick, the ball eventually finding its way to Forres Thistle striker Paul Caufield who sent his volley over the Dufftown crossbar - a real let off for the visiting side.
Dufftown almost grabbed the first goal of the afternoon after 38 minutes. Gary Spence and Mark Sanderson linked up well. Spence's cross from the Dufftown left was only partially cleared by the Forres Thistle defence to the feet of Mark Sanderson who saw his shot from 16 yards well saved by Thistle 'keeper Bremner.
Forres Thistle then took the lead on the stroke of half-time. Dufftown's Mark Taylor and Peter Fraser both struggled to control the ball and when it bounced inside the Dufftown 18 yard box quickest to react was Forres Thistle's Mark Pennie who blasted the ball beyond Dufftown 'keeper Martin Taylor and into the top right hand corner of the net.
Into the second half and Forres Thistle almost made it 2-0 from a set-piece after 51 minutes. This time David McIvor swung in the corner kick onto the head of Graham Barbour, but the defender saw his effort go wide of the target.
Dufftown's first chance of the second half came on the hour mark. Again it was Gary Spence and Mark Sanderson who were involved, Spence's through ball finding Sanderson but the striker fired his effort wide of Forres 'keeper Simon Bremner's goal and the chance was lost.
Dufftown were then offered a way back into the match after 70 minutes after being awarded a penalty kick. A high ball was pumped into the Forres penalty area where Dufftown's Mark Sanderson challenged the Forres Thistle defence. Referee Steve Swanson spotted a nudge from the Forres Thistle defender and awarded the penalty kick. Up stepped Alan Shearer, sending the 'keeper the wrong way, to bring his side back on level terms.
Dufftown could have taken the lead for the first time after 78 minutes. A free kick from captain Stuart Lamberton was spilled by home 'keeper Simon Bremner, but with Dufftown's Ian Cameron lurking nearby he was too slow to react and the chance was gone.
Dufftown then made it 2-1 with just 10 minutes remaining. A quick throw in from Lee McGregor found Gary Spence and his low cross was side-footed into the net for his second goal of the afternoon by Alan Shearer.
Dufftown's lead was to last barely two minutes however as Forres Thistle equalised almost straight away. A free-kick was played into the Dufftown penalty area and with the Dufftown defence unable to deal with the cross-ball Paul Caufield made no mistake and the game was level again at 2-2.
Incredibly Dufftown then proceeded to lose the match in the 4th minute of added time. Another high ball into the Dufftown penalty area was not dealt with and once again striker Paul Caufield had the simplest of chances heading the ball beyond the exposed Martin Taylor.
The full-time whistle went just a short time later and while Dufftown can perhaps feel aggrieved at the amount of added time played at the end of the match they will also know that they will have to stop conceding silly goals if they are to progress up the league.
